What it checks
- Length: 30 characters for the title, 80 for the short description, 4,000 for the full description.
- Ranking, price and promotion words Google rules out in the title, such as “#1”, “best”, “free” or “new”.
- Emoji and repeated special characters in the title, and all caps unless it is your brand.
- The ten words your full description uses most, and any one word above 4% of the text (our rule of thumb; Google gives no number).
- Words from your title that never appear in your description.
How Google Play search differs from the App Store
Google Play has no keyword field. Your title, short description and full description are the text you control for search, so the words you want to rank for need to appear in text people actually read. Google's metadata policy also warns against repetitive keywords, so natural wording beats stuffing.
Track the result
Altitude tracks Google Play ranks for your keywords (weekly on Free, daily on Pro), along with the apps around you. Paste your Play link and it picks the keywords for you. Your first app is free.
